A traditional delicacy during Lunar New Year.The sweet Nian Gao is a very popular dessert during Chinese New Year.It carries the meanings of auspicious and prosperity,a very promising better year ahead. Caramelized Nian Gao is made of glutinous rice flour and sugar.The ingredients and steps of making seems to be very simple and easy but the process of making will take quite a long time. 

According to Auntie Lian, her Nian Gao making took her about 13 hrs to steam it.But you have an option of shortened the time to 4 hours which most of the Nian Gao in the market do.Auntie Lian still prefer the traditional way.She claims that the Nian Gao that took longer time to steam it will not easily gets mouldy,it can last longer.Beside that, the texture and the taste are greater!
